ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL EPISCOPAL CHURCH EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA
ST MICHAEL'S IN THE MOMENT: JUNE 30, 2017

I spent some time this morning talking with a parishioner about daily prayer. I suggested that finding a type of prayer that allows you to become open to the presence of God is what’s most important. There are all kinds of options—here are a few:

·         Daily Devotions, Book of Common Prayer, p. 136 .

·         Meditations in Forward Day by Day (copies available in Yeaton Hall).

·         Prayer beads – we have them as the Anglican rosary – ask me about them.

·         Walking prayer – just as simple as that… take a walk and pray.

·         Singing your prayers – just like walking prayer, but singing! Perhaps a favorite hymn.

·         Praying the Psalms – you can pray through the psalms in a month using the daily notations in the Book of Common Prayer.

·         Ignatian Prayer – read a story from the gospels and then place yourself in the story and imagine it as vividly as you can… what are the sights and smells, who else is there, what’s the weather like, how do you feel, and how do you respond to God in this moment.

·         Journaling prayer – make time to write down your prayer thoughts and note answers to prayer.

·         Gratitudes – take time each day to give thanks to God… consider keeping a gratitude journal.

·         The prayer pause

However you start, or walk though, or end your day, I hope you take a moment for prayer. I think you'll like it!

LETTER FROM THE RECTOR
Rev. Dina Ferguson

Welcome to St. Michael the Archangel Episcopal Church!

We are glad you are visiting our website and hope you will visit us in person soon. If you are looking for a spiritual home, we welcome you to worship God and grow in grace with us. If you are looking for a temporary place of spiritual rest and fulfillment as you travel on to another destination, you are welcome to spend a day or a month or more with us.

St. Michael the Archangel Church is part of the Diocese of Los Angeles of The Episcopal Church. Our worship services use the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. Our early service at 8am is a quiet service using Rite I. The family service at 10am is a choral Eucharist using Rite II. The child care is always available at this service and we offer Sunday school beginning at 10am in Yeaton Hall on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the month during the school year.

We invite you to walk with us on your spiritual journey. Wherever that journey takes you, may you know the blessings of God who calls us all in love.

MISSION STATEMENT

Growing in God's Love.

Working in God's Spirit.

St. Michael the Archangel Episcopal Church is located in El Segundo, California, a coastal community in Los Angeles’ South Bay.  The city was founded in 1911 by Standard Oil Company and its name, which means “the second” in Spanish, is the site of Standard Oil’s second refinery. The east side of town is a bustling business mecca, home to twelve Fortune 500 companies. The west side features a quiet residential area and a quaint downtown. St. Michael’s is located on the corner of Richmond and Holly just west of the main downtown business district in the residential part of town.

Because of its centrality to the surrounding areas of Manhattan Beach, Playa Del Rey, and Hawthorne, St. Michael’s serves parishioners from across the South Bay, and routinely welcomes travelers passing through nearby LAX.
